Alvor is a quaint fishing village and also a popular seaside resort for tourists. It is in the western part of the Algarve between Portimao & Lagos.
This Moorish town has a lot of history form the 16th-century, including the Igreja Matriz church which is at the highest part of the town, still to this day. Alvor has certainly kept it's character with small cobbled streets that lead down to the old fisherman hut where you'll find the local fishermen working or just simply socialising.
The harbour and riverfront has been paved and lined with bars, cafes and seafood restaurants. The most idyllic place to sit and watch the world go by!
Alvor's beach is well known for its fine white sand and clean crystal blue water. This vast beach spans 3.5km from the river-mouth to Praia Dos Três Irmãos where you'll find the most stunning rock formations and coves.
Alvor not only has a beautiful beach, but it also has a river and nature reserve. One of the greatest developments in recent years was the boardwalk which covers the entire nature reserve. Perfect for walking, cycling, running and bird watching. This estuary ecosystem is teeming with wildlife, plants, and natural sights. Walk past large sand dunes and stroll along a zone of salt lakes, lagoons, and marshes.
Alvor really has something for everyone of all ages, from young families to retired couples. While its a still a small town, there is lively atmosphere among the many bars and restaurants, especially during the peak summer season.
